Summertime

This is a poem I wrote using the first line from another poet. In my writing class, our instructor brought in hundreds of index cards, each with a different opening line of poetry on it. Our class had a hilarious time creating new poems by linking the cards, then each of us chose a line to start our own poem.
So, the first line is not my own, but it took me in a fun direction!
Summertime
The list of things I’ll not do grows comfortably long:
Do the dishes
Scour the shower
Fold the laundry
These tasks I will not accomplish today.
I will not return any calls
unless it is to dish a friend’s latest would-be Romeo.
I will not work outside
unless it is to drag a lawn chair from the porch into the bright sunlight.
I will not leave the house
unless it is to wander the shaded driveway to the mailboxes and back.
Though the list of things I’ll not do grows,
My to-do list remains sinfully short:
Eat
Read
Dream
Listen
