I just finished my third week of the Oregon Writing Project and having a blast. It is an intensive writing course for teachers, and all day we chat and eat and hang out, and oh, yeah, write.

Each day one of us teaches a writing lesson that we use in our classroom. It is a way to share teaching ideas and techniques, but the thing that sets it apart is that we actually do the activities! We write and draw and share and respond in the same way we ask our students to. It is a very eye-opening experience and will definitely impact they way I teach writing.

I have been writing LOTS on all sorts of subjects. One main area of focus has been revisiting childhood places and memories. I have been thinking a lot about all you Allens, and remembering my days in the house on the corner of Church and Scenic. Topics include: spying on the grownups from my little deck with Corinna, Corinna's wooden vanity and the games it inspired, the places, objects, ideas, and sayings that have shaped who I am, how much I love Mom, etc. Some of it is funny, some serious, and it really reinforces the concept that writing is a way of making connections and exploring ideas that you might not explore otherwise.

I plan to post some of my writing and different ideas I have come across in this class. So, keep checking!
