OK, next year we need to start organizing this over Christmas! I just checked availability at Loon Lake, and July and August are totally booked.

We could get in on the weekend of June 16. The question is, is do we want to go that early in the summer? If you recall, our rain-out trip to Loon Lake last year was over Memorial Day, and this would be only a few weeks later. Do we dare gamble??

So please let me know your thoughts on this. Loon Lake is a good central location, but is there somewhere else we want to go? For those of us down south, Lake of the Woods has a beautiful campground, and I definitely think we should spend a weekend up there. Also, there is the option of a few of us going up mid-week to Loon Lake and trying to snag one of the non-reservable spots & hold it for the weekend.

We should decide soon because I don't think the June 16 space will last . . .

I definitely want to do some camping at Lake of the Woods . . . and Howard Prairie can be fun too. Both are close (not for those up north, but us down here). We should try to do it more than once!! As for Loon Lake . . . I would be open to other spots. The rain was a bummer, but I also remember that the rain saved us from the mosquitoes. So if we beat the rain are we bitten to death? Does anyone have any suggestions for other places? Camping on the coast is fun . . . I will do some research.

Do I recall last year at Loon Lake?...gawd yes...and this Memorial Day weekend proved just as rainy...you were right in assuming early is not good. I like the idea of us Southern Allens partaking in a local camping event...my suggestion is Union Creek...beautiful if you get a campsite next to the creek...which might happen if some of us go up on say a Wed. Also, I remember fondly Scott River campground...alway hot and lovely there...plus the kids can actually paddle around in the river and enjoy the spa effect too...however, Dre is not too big on Ca. We are talking one vote here AND we are there in 2 hours...just a thought.
For up North, there is Champoeg State Heritage Area...off 219, 7 miles E of Newberg (27 miles south of Portland) on the Willamette River. Or how about Silver Falls State Park 26 miles E of Salem. Or Fall Creek State Recreation Site off 58...27 miles SE of Eugene-Springfield...its primitive but has a boat ramp.
